And the craziness continues...

Sen Natasha Stott Despoja is concerned about some of the pregnancy counselling services provided in Australia, suggesting they are deceptive and not providing truthful information. In fact, she is so concerned that she wants access to government funding cut for counselling services that give women wrong information.

Do you know what some of these deceptive counselling services say, that Natasha hates so much? That terminating a pregnancy is akin to killing the baby!

**Ruth just shakes her head at the insanity of it**

Natasha, Amanda, and Condaleeza are definitive proof that women are not very good politicians...

*oo...controversy, but the evidence is stacked against the ladies*

Perhaps the greater controversy is... do we have ANY very good politicians?

oh my word...

Natasha Stott Despoja should already know that she was once a baby.

I wonder how she would've felt if her mother aborted her?

politics is hollywood for ugly people.

But matthias I would disagree with you on those examples you gave of bad female politicians.

I would consider those three female politicans to be quite successful in what they are doing - you actually have to know what they have achieved before you slate them in such a way.

Think b4 you hit the "login and publish" button next time.

Natasha - abortion issue. *bad*

Amanda - Cornelia Rau asylum seeker debacle *bad*

Condaleeza - opposed Israel-Lebanon ceasfire *bad*, conceded that US made 'many mistakes' concerning Iraq. *bad*

Oh I see how this is stacked...

Natasha has been a passionate and vocal advocate on the abortion issue which you've posted about here and probably even filled out the abortion survey on the democrats website (which I have), therefore in this one aspect which you say is 'bad' she has been very successful, brought the issue to the forefront and made it a public issue (notice John Howard is now discussing conscience votes on a related bill?). Her success, unlike many other senators, is championing an idea or issue which she is passionate about. I won't go into the stats of her being the youngest elected senator/ her longevity in office and impact on Australian politics, but you get the idea...

Secondly, hardly anyone remembers the cornelia Rau issue (or many other immigration issues), a few departmental chiefs were moved around and a few fires were doused... in fact, when you think about it, immigration has slid out of the public eye since she took over from ruddock (not even Howards latest immigration bill rubbed off on her). so I would consider Vanstone has done a pretty good job of cleaning up a very messy portfolio.

Finally, it was quite interesting that Rice spent more time playing piano concertos in Japan during the conflict, yet once again it depends on your point of view, the US couldn't draw up a ceasefire because to do so would both undermine Israels sovereinty, and contradict their position on regional terrorism, specifically hezbollah. However, I do recall GWB still being reelected after the WMD issue in Iraq- Rice's job is to clean up after the president and she played THE major role in cleaning up that mess... did a pretty 'good' job if you ask me.

SO I hope that you've discovered the two errors found in your original statement that a. being good at politics is not coupled with your ethics or morality, and b. considering the first point, these three are quite successful politicians indeed. (And I could thirdly pull apart the whole 'evidence is stacked against the ladies' thing, but i think you get the idea by now...)

You would do well to remember that finality is not the language of politics.
