saddened....

My sister emailed me Friday night with a news report that a prominent preacher had been alleged to have been praying a male escort for s3x and that drug use had been involved.

Saturday I read that he had stepped aside from leadership of his church, pending an investigative process and resigned as head of the NAE.

Today I read that he has been removed permenantly from his church leadership and also see and read that he has admitted to some of the allegations re drug use and receiving a massage from his accuser.

More here....

Whatever the case may be, I am immensely saddened and sobered by this. A man of great influence and prominence - yet none of us are ever beyond temptation.

May God grant comfort and peace to Ted, his wife and family, church members, his accuser and all who have been touched by this tragedy.
May there be repentance where there needs to be, and reconciliation with God and others.
May all of us be reminded that we are equally susceptible to the deception of sin and may we continue to build authentic, trustworthy and accountable friendships.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound.........

"You can't put yourself in the position he was in and want respect and people to follow your words when you're actually doing the opposite behind their backs," Jones said.

I guess the above statement was said in all its appropriateness and is very vaild but what i don't understand is: what was jones trying to achieve for himself by exposing this man?

Nothing at all for himself. He may have been trying to achieve something for the masses of Christians who attended the Church of Haggard, and let them know the truth. However damaging it may have been. Like all of us, Haggard did the wrong thing, but unlike all of us, Haggard was the influential leader to a large number of people within his Church. Leaders lead by example and he failed to do so. His dishonesty, however, may have proved to be far worse than the crime.

Thanks matt :)

..this also answers my question: www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20707931-401,00.html

"He (Jones) has been widely quoted as saying he came forward because he was angered by what he perceived as the pastor's hypocrisy on same-sex marriage.

Mr Haggard has been a vocal opponent of gay marriage and has preached that homosexuality is immoral...

"I am guilty of sexual immorality .... from time to time, the dirt that I thought was gone would resurface, and I would find myself thinking thoughts and experiencing desires that were contrary to everything I believe and teach."

Tempatation isn't a sin ...

But may I agree [say Amen] with Ruth: "May all of us be reminded that we are equally susceptible to the deception of sin.."

I'm so glad that Ted has given up trying to deny the truth because now he can get on with letting God restore him. The pressure of living in 'hidden sin' and trying to make his lies convincing must have been so taxing on Ted's whole being.

I pray that Ted allow God to restore him & not let the guilt of his sin render him incapable of walking. May he realise that every one of us are capable of disasterous failings & the person that we shock the most is ourselves not God. His biggest struggle now will be forgiving himself. One day he will be able to preach with powerful insight into the uniqueness of God's grace.

from haggards statement:

Our church's overseers have required me to submit to the oversight of Dr. James Dobson, Pastor Jack Hayford, and Pastor Tommy Barnett.

that would make for an interesting focus on the family broadcast!
